Succession Buzz: Olusi Reveals Who May Replace Sanwo-Olu In 2027
The Chairman of the Lagos Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Tajudeen Olusi, a close ally of President Bola Tinubu, has suggested that Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, may emerge as the successor to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Olusi made the remark on Wednesday amid growing speculation over the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s consensus candidate ahead of the upcoming governorship primary.
Speaking at the General Assembly of Indigenous Associations in Lagos State, organised by the IBILE Eko Summit Foundation under the theme “Addressing Urbanisation and Urban Challenges of Lagos State” at the MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos, Olusi repeatedly referred to Hamzat as the “incoming Governor of Lagos.”
According to Vanguard, his repeated reference to Hamzat in that manner drew reactions from attendees, given its implications for succession politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Olusi also emphasised Hamzat’s local roots, describing him as a “son of the soil” and a “cousin from Egbe,” a remark he said many people were previously unaware of, which he used to underscore Hamzat’s indigenous connection to Lagos political and traditional structures.
The event was attended by former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, and the President of the IBILE Eko Summit Foundation, Olasupo Shasore, a former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.
