SDP Gains Momentum As Former Governorship Candidates Switch Allegiances

Former governorship candidates of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) from the 2023 general elections have officially defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), pledging their allegiance to the party’s vision ahead of the 2027 elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The defectors include Emiyare Etete (Rivers), Elder Chris Agu (Enugu), Anthony Umeh (Anambra), Abdulkareem Mustapha (Kwara), and Capt. Ahmed Kaugama (Jigawa). Additionally, Adam Idris, a former PRP House of Representatives candidate for Kaduna North Federal Constituency, has also joined the SDP.

At the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, SDP National Chairman Alhaji Shehu Gabam warmly welcomed the new members, assuring them of full integration into the party’s structure.

“Our party is open to all, without conditions. If your goal is to build a strong institution, SDP is the place to be. Once you join, you have equal rights with every member,” Gabam stated.

Reaffirming SDP’s determination for the 2027 general elections, he added, “In SDP, we are united as one family. Here, there is no ‘use and dump’ policy.”

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Chairman of the former PRP Gubernatorial Candidates Forum, Makarfi Hayatuddeen, emphasized their confidence in SDP’s ability to drive positive change in Nigeria.

“We did not leave PRP out of desperation. We believe SDP is the party that can elevate Nigeria’s status globally,” Hayatuddeen declared.

He further urged Nigerian youth and women to align with the SDP, calling their move a “strategic realignment of progressive forces.”

The defection event was attended by key SDP officials, including National Secretary Olu Agunloye and members of the National Working Committee.
