Speaking at the inaugural Body of Benchers Annual Lecture and the public presentation of the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee report in Abuja, Shettima urged judges and legal practitioners to remain steadfast in upholding justice without yielding to pressure from what he termed as “agents of anarchy.”

“The judiciary serves as a fundamental pillar of our nation’s sovereignty. A country’s accountability, fairness, and orderliness are directly linked to those who create, enforce, and interpret its laws,” he stated.

He stressed that laws are not mere formalities but the bedrock of civilization, warning that any attempt to manipulate the legal system for personal gain endangers national stability.

“Without laws, there can be no order; without order, society ceases to exist. Each time justice is delayed or compromised for vested interests, we weaken the foundation of our nation. If that foundation collapses, everything built upon it will inevitably fall,” Shettima warned.

Dismissing the belief that justice belongs to the loudest voices, he called it a dangerous misconception. Instead, he commended the judiciary for its resilience in upholding the rule of law, particularly in affirming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mandate despite political pressures.

“Justice must serve even the most voiceless individuals. It ensures that our nation is governed by the rule of law, not by mob influence. The judiciary’s decision to uphold President Tinubu’s mandate, despite political blackmail, demonstrates its resilience against undue influence and its commitment to national stability,” he concluded.
