Sowore: My Decision To Reject Jonathan’s Offer Shaped My Political Journey

Human rights activist and media entrepreneur, Omoyele Sowore, has revealed that former President Goodluck Jonathan sought to include him in his cabinet—an offer he outrightly declined.

In an interview with Leadership published on Thursday, Sowore disclosed that Jonathan even attempted to sway him with financial incentives, but he rejected them.

According to Sowore, the approach came after he had played a key role in challenging the power cabal during the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s administration, which eventually led to Jonathan’s ascension to the presidency.

He stated that Jonathan sent emissaries to persuade him to return to Nigeria and work within his government, but he refused, asserting that rejecting the offer was one of the best decisions of his life.

Sowore further revealed that his connection to Jonathan was through a mutual friend, the late Oronto Douglas, a former presidential adviser. Despite repeated attempts, including monetary inducements, he remained steadfast in his refusal, insisting that he did not fight for democracy to serve personal interests.
