The Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, Lere Olayinka, has criticized Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, urging him to focus on governance instead of making baseless security allegations regarding a purported pro-Wike rally.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Olayinka dismissed Diri’s claims as “shamefully unfounded,” asserting that if Wike intended to attend any rally, he would personally inform security agencies.

Governor Diri had earlier raised concerns about an alleged mega rally and the inauguration of a pro-Wike group in Bayelsa, warning that the event could disrupt peace in the state. However, Olayinka rebuffed these claims, arguing that raising alarms over citizens’ right to political gatherings was unwarranted.

“It is unfortunate that a governor with access to security intelligence would go on national television over mere suspicion of a rally, which is a fundamental right,” Olayinka stated.

He emphasized that Nigerians have the freedom to support any leader of their choice without interference, adding that Wike would not shy away from openly declaring his involvement in any political event.

“If the FCT Minister were attending any rally in Bayelsa, he would personally notify security agencies. He is not one to operate in secrecy,” he affirmed.

Olayinka also ridiculed Diri for summoning the State Security Council and Bayelsa Elders Council over what he described as mere speculation, accusing the governor of using Wike as a distraction from his own governance failures.

“Is this what governance in Bayelsa has been reduced to? Must Wike be used as a scapegoat for Diri’s lack of performance?” he questioned.

Additionally, Olayinka reminded the governor of his past relationship with Wike, revealing that Diri had once sought Wike’s support for his reelection bid.

“When he needed reelection, Diri was brought to Wike by Senator Lokpobiri and David Lyon. He even knelt before Wike, who told him, ‘No, don’t do that, you’re a governor,’” Olayinka recounted.

Expressing disappointment over Diri’s current stance, he accused the governor of hypocrisy and ingratitude.

“Shamefully, the same Wike he once sought help from has now become the target of his political attacks. Some people truly lack conscience,” Olayinka concluded.
