Reports indicate that the victims were commuters traveling along the Maiduguri-Damboa Road, a route that cuts through the notorious Sambisa Forest. The explosion occurred as a military-escorted convoy was transporting passengers from Damboa to Maiduguri.

Multiple sources confirm that the blast caused several injuries, with survivors now receiving medical attention at a hospital in Maiduguri.

The Maiduguri-Damboa Road, which connects Maiduguri to key southern Borno local government areas, has long been a danger zone for Boko Haram attacks. The road remained closed for years until Governor Babagana Zulum’s administration reopened it with the support of regular military escorts and bomb-detection sweeps conducted twice weekly.

This tragic incident comes shortly after Governor Zulum raised alarm over a resurgence in Boko Haram activities across the state.
