Suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to dismiss a petition filed against her by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, in which he accused her of criminal defamation and incitement.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to reports, Akpabio alleged that Akpoti-Uduaghan falsely accused him of orchestrating an assassination plot against her. He described the allegation as a “heinous lie” aimed at tarnishing his reputation and stirring public unrest.

However, in a statement issued on Saturday by her legal counsel, Victor Giwa, Akpoti-Uduaghan insisted that Akpabio’s petition was a calculated attempt to divert law enforcement from addressing more serious accusations against him.

Giwa emphasized that the Senate President should first submit himself to a thorough investigation over the alleged threat to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s life, especially regarding the purportedly unlawful withdrawal of her security personnel on Akpabio’s orders.

“We represent Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, and our attention has been drawn to the news that Senate President Godswill Akpabio has filed a petition against our client, accusing her of incitement,” the statement read.

“Our client maintains that the Senate President should be subject to a full investigation concerning threats to her life, including the illegal removal of her security detail, allegedly at his instruction.

“We urge the IGP to treat Akpabio’s petition as a distraction from the real issues. It is only after a thorough investigation has cleared him of the threat allegations that any discussion of incitement or defamation against Senator Natasha can be considered.

“Therefore, we call on the Inspector General of Police to dismiss Akpabio’s petition, which we believe is diversionary and prejudicial to the ongoing investigation.”
