The victims were confined for an unspecified duration inside a house located in the Orogun area of the state.
In a brief statement, the police revealed that the victims, believed to be citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo, had been lured to Nigeria under false promises of lucrative job offers.
The traffickers allegedly extorted large sums of money in dollars from the victims’ families and relatives as part of their elaborate deception.
The rescued individuals are currently being housed at the Police Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, as investigations continue to uncover the full scope of the crime.
In a separate development, the former National Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jola Ogunlusi, has died at the age of 91 after a brief illness.
The announcement was made in a statement by the family’s representative, Gbenga Aruleba, who expressed both sadness and gratitude for Ogunlusi’s impactful and well-lived life.
The statement read: “With profound sadness but heartfelt gratitude to God for a life well spent, the Ogunlusi family announces the passing of our beloved patriarch, father, grandfather, and uncle, Mr. Jola Ogunlusi, who peacefully departed this life on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 9:54 a.m., after a brief illness. He was aged 91.”
