Gov Sani Under Fire As Ashiru Links ASUU Strike To APC’s Planned Failure

Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Isa Ashiru, has slammed Governor Uba Sani and the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, labeling it a total failure.

His criticism follows the indefinite strike declared on Thursday by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kaduna State University (KASU) branch, citing the government’s failure to honour agreements previously reached with the union.

In the strike notice signed by the branch chairman, Peter Adamu, and secretary, Peter Waziri, ASUU listed issues such as the non-payment of salaries, pensions, promotion arrears, and other entitlements as key grievances against the Sani-led government.

The statement reads:
“The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), KASU branch wishes to inform the public that its National Executive Council (NEC) has granted approval for the branch to resume its suspended indefinite strike action, effective April 24, 2025.

“The outstanding issues include: 1. Payment of all withheld salaries (May–September 2022 and beyond); 2. Payment of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) from 2026 to date; 3. Settlement of promotion arrears and SIWES supervision allowances; 4. Group Life Assurance and entitlements for deceased members; 5. Non-remittance of pension contributions (2009–2019); 6. Implementation of the 25% and 35% wage awards; 7. Full restoration of university autonomy.

“This strike action stems from a breach of trust and the Kaduna State Government’s failure to fulfil its commitments.”

Reacting on Friday, Ashiru said the strike action amounted to a damning indictment of Governor Sani’s leadership, pledging his full support to ASUU’s demands.

He stated,
“The indefinite strike by ASUU-KASU is not merely a labour dispute; it is a powerful judgment on the APC-led government in Kaduna. Withheld salaries, unpaid pensions, shattered promises — this administration has treated education with sheer disdain. Enough is enough.

“For years, our lecturers have been sidelined, our students abandoned, and our institutions left to decay. The APC’s failure is no accident — it is systematic, intentional, and shameful. This is not governance; it is outright betrayal.”
