High Chief Odedeogboro Balogun of Epe Kingdom, Musiliu Adeniyi, confirmed the death to Punch and stated that the late king’s burial would take place today following Islamic customs.
“The news is true. He passed away this morning and will be laid to rest at 4 p.m. today,” Adeniyi said.
Before ascending the throne as the 19th Olu of Epe, Oba Adewale held several prominent chieftaincy titles within the kingdom. He initially served as Otun-Balogun, the third-highest rank in Epe’s traditional hierarchy, before becoming Balogun and eventually being crowned king.
Beyond his royal responsibilities, the late monarch was a distinguished public servant, having retired as Director of Administration at the Ministry of Education. He also served as an Executive Secretary at the Ministry of Lands.
In related news, the Oniroko of Iroko, Oba Sunmaila Olasunkanmi Abioye Opeola (Kurunloju I), also passed away. Naija News reports that the revered monarch died in the early hours of Friday, May 30, 2025, following a period of illness.
His death was officially confirmed in a statement by Prince Dolapo Abioye on behalf of the Opeola-Oniroko royal family.
