I Wasn’t Praised As Governor Because I Refused To Pay For Media Hype – Peter Obi Confesses

Speaking in an interview aired Monday on Arise Television’s Morning Show with anchor Rufai Oseni, the former Anambra State governor noted that many critics believe he underperformed as governor simply because he did not spend money on media promotions.

Obi explained that his decision not to pay the media to advertise his achievements contributed to the perception that he wasn’t effective in office.

“The only reason some think I didn’t do well is because I wasn’t everywhere in the media, promoting myself or paying journalists,” he said. “I’ve always had reservations about handing out public funds for personal or political image-making.”

He also stressed his modest lifestyle, saying:

“Ask the donor agencies—I was the first to pay counterpart funding. The only house I own in my name is in Anambra State. You’re welcome to come visit and walk the streets with me. The people there will tell you who I am.”
