Drama In Ondo! APC Demands Retraction As Ajayi Sparks Controversy Over Tribunal Ruling
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has demanded an apology from Agboola Ajayi, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the last governorship election, over his claims that APC members had prior knowledge of the tribunal’s judgment before it was announced.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Ajayi had alleged that the APC’s street celebrations in Akure on June 4 — the same day the tribunal upheld Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s election victory — suggested foreknowledge of the ruling. However, the APC swiftly dismissed the claim, describing it as a baseless attack on the integrity of Nigeria’s judiciary.
The three-member tribunal, chaired by Justice Benson Ogbu, unanimously dismissed the petitions filed by Ajayi and others, citing lack of merit, diligence, and competence. The panel also described the petitions as “frivolous.”
In response to the tribunal’s ruling, Ajayi announced his intention to appeal the decision, expressing disappointment and skepticism over the tribunal’s handling of evidence. He urged PDP members not to lose hope, insisting that justice would eventually prevail.
Reacting to these comments, the APC, through its Director of Media and Publicity, Steve Otaloro, condemned Ajayi’s remarks as an “unfortunate” and “unwarranted” attack on both the judiciary and the democratic process.
“The PDP should offer a full apology to the judiciary and the thousands of voters who participated in the election that led to Governor Aiyedatiwa’s resounding victory,” Otaloro stated.
He accused the PDP of only respecting the judiciary when rulings favor them, warning that such double standards erode public trust in the legal system.
