Terry G voiced his concern over the growing trend of branding veteran artists as “outdated,” pointing out that, unlike in Western nations where music legends are consistently celebrated, many African societies tend to overlook their contributions.
The Akpako Master highlighted that this disregard could harm Afrobeats’ global standing in the long run.
On his X handle, he lamented:“I hear people say, ‘Your time don pass!’—that’s a damaging mindset.
In the West, icons like Jay-Z and Beyoncé are revered, not discarded. But in Africa—particularly Nigeria—we’re too quick to throw away our own.
That same attitude makes us demonize our ancestors while idolizing those from the West.
We must change this narrative. Without constant value creation and mutual respect, even greatness fades. Let’s do better.”
