According to Naija News, the governor lamented that the root causes of Nigeria’s security issues often lie not within local communities, but in the toxic narratives pushed by powerful elites.

“My theory is that more than anyone else, insecurity in Nigeria is a problem created by the elite,” Mutfwang said.
“When the elite collude to mislead the people, crisis becomes inevitable. Even when harmful ideologies begin at the grassroots, the elite can stop them if they choose to.”

He criticized the role of elite commentators and analysts who, under the guise of political insight, spread misinformation and inflammatory rhetoric that poisons public discourse.
“They’re the ones who do the analysis, who spread the toxic messages that corrupt people’s minds. That’s how the cycle of unrest is sustained,” he added.

Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering peace, unity, and inclusion across Plateau State.
“I came into office with a strong commitment to restore lasting peace to Plateau. That’s why I’ve made intentional efforts to bridge religious and ethnic divides,” he stated.

Despite facing criticism and being labeled in some influential quarters, Mutfwang proudly declared that no governor since 1999 has done more to promote peace and unity in the state.
“As recently as yesterday, I heard reports of being tagged negatively in some high places. But I can say, without fear, that I’ve done more than any of my predecessors in uniting Plateau,” he said.

He concluded by urging his fellow elites to accept responsibility for reshaping national conversations and promoting messages of tolerance and cohesion.
