The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has expressed openness to the possible defection of its 2023 presidential flagbearer, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), calling such a move a “major relief” for the party.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

This position was outlined in a statement issued on Sunday by the NNPP’s National Secretary, Oginni Olaposi, in Lagos.

As reported by Naija News, the remarks come in the wake of Abdullahi Ganduje’s resignation as APC National Chairman, a development that has sparked speculation about behind-the-scenes negotiations with Kwankwaso in preparation for the 2027 elections.

While the NNPP acknowledged Ganduje’s resignation—reportedly due to health issues—as an internal APC matter, it stressed that it could no longer remain silent given Kwankwaso’s continued association with the party, despite his expulsion.

“Kwankwaso still claims to be a member of the NNPP, even after being expelled over allegations of anti-party conduct,” Olaposi said. “He not only attempted to take over the party but also dragged it through unnecessary and costly legal battles.”

He further noted that the party’s original logo, which Kwankwaso had altered to reflect his Kwankwasiyya Movement, had only recently been restored by INEC following protracted litigation.

The NNPP also dismissed claims that Ganduje’s exit was aimed at clearing the way for Kwankwaso’s entry into the APC but made clear it would not object if such a deal were to materialize.

“We are skeptical about the ongoing propaganda suggesting Ganduje stepped down to accommodate a negotiated arrangement with Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 polls,” the statement read. “That said, we would be pleased if it turns out to be true. The APC is better equipped to deal with the baggage Kwankwaso brings.”

The party accused the former Kano governor of turning against its founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, after securing a free presidential ticket in the 2023 election.

“Kwankwaso betrayed our confidence by trying to hijack the party from its founder, Dr. Aniebonam, who was instrumental in granting him a free ride to contest the presidency,” Olaposi concluded.
