Rivers LG Polls Were Free And Fair – Suspended Speaker Amaewhule Insists

Amaewhule made this remark after casting his vote at Unit 15, Ward 1, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, where he praised the conduct of the polls.

Commending the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), he lauded election officials for their professionalism and the smooth handling of the exercise.

“I just cast my vote. Everything went smoothly. The officials here, from presiding officers to assistants, have conducted themselves very professionally. I’m impressed with the way RSIEC has organised this election,” he stated.

The suspended Speaker also hailed residents of his ward for their peaceful and enthusiastic participation.

“As you can see, people are happy, orderly, and conscious of the importance of this process. No ballot box snatching, no fighting — everything is calm and organised,” he said.

Amaewhule expressed optimism that the results would reflect the will of the people, saying: “We pray that at the end of the day, the outcome will truly mirror the wishes of the electorate.”

While acknowledging that some polling units in other parts of the state began voting late, he noted that in his ward, the process commenced as early as 8:00 a.m., attributing this to the ward’s proximity to RSIEC headquarters.

He concluded by expressing confidence that all candidates would be satisfied with the overall process, describing the exercise as smooth and credible.
