ADC Blows Hot: Party Demands Immediate Release Of Journalist Arrested Over Explosive Kebbi Hospital Video

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for the immediate and unconditional release of journalist Hassan Mai-Waya Kangiwa, who was arrested in Kebbi State after sharing a viral video that exposed the dilapidated condition of the Kangiwa General Hospital.

ADC spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, in a statement released Wednesday via his verified handle, accused the APC-led Kebbi government of attempting to gag accountability journalism instead of addressing the deep rot in the state’s healthcare system.

“We demand Hassan’s immediate release and urge the Kebbi State Government to respect the fundamental rights of journalists to report the truth,” Abdullahi said.

He further vowed that the party would continue to circulate the hospital video until both Kangiwa is freed and urgent reforms are made to fix the health sector failures it revealed.

Outrage Over Arrest

Kangiwa was reportedly detained on the orders of Governor Nasiru Idris after his footage, which showed patients lying on bare metal frames without mattresses, sparked widespread outrage online.

Human rights advocate Dan Bello described the arrest as “a new wave of tyranny,” insisting it was a deliberate attempt to intimidate journalists and silence citizens from demanding accountability.

Similarly, the pro-democracy Take It Back Movement condemned the detention, calling it “sheer tyranny.”

“Gov. Nasir Idris has thrown journalist Hassan Mai-Waya Kangiwa in detention for exposing the rot in Kebbi hospitals. This is tyranny! We demand his immediate release. Silencing truth will not stop the people’s resistance,” the group wrote on .
