Heartbreak For Akon: Wife Files For Divorce Just Days To Their 29th Wedding Anniversary

American singer Akon is facing a major personal upheaval as his wife, Tomeka Thiam, has filed for divorce just days before what would have been their 29th wedding anniversary.

According to court documents filed on September 12, Tomeka cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for ending the marriage.

Having been married to the 52-year-old star for nearly three decades, she is seeking joint legal custody and sole physical custody of their 17-year-old daughter, Journey. She is also requesting spousal support, while asking that Akon not be granted any financial support in return.

The divorce has reignited public interest in Akon’s private life, which has long been the subject of speculation. The singer, whose real name is Aliaune Badara Thiam, has previously revealed that he has nine children — seven boys and two girls — with multiple women.

He has even likened his role as a father to that of Nick Cannon, who is known for having a large family with different partners.

Although Akon has largely kept his marriage out of the spotlight, he has occasionally addressed rumours of having multiple wives, often choosing neither to confirm nor deny them.

With the divorce proceedings underway, the couple’s nearly 30-year union now appears to be drawing to a close.
