Dream Turns Gritty: Arokodare, Boniface Fail To Impress In European Debut Battles

At Molineux, Arokodare’s first Premier League appearance in front of Wolves fans ended in disappointment, with Leeds United securing a 3-1 victory on Saturday. The defeat extended Wolves’ miserable run to five consecutive losses, leaving Gary O’Neil’s men rooted to the bottom of the table without a single point.
The Nigerian forward, a deadline-day signing from Genk, was handed a starting role but struggled to influence the outcome.
In Germany, Boniface also faced a tough outing as Werder Bremen were swept aside 3-0 by Freiburg. Introduced at half-time for Justin Njinmah, the Super Eagles striker could not turn the tide as Freiburg dominated the encounter. Bremen’s Felix Agu featured for the entire game, but the defeat leaves them with only four points from their opening four matches.
Elsewhere in Europe, Nigerian players experienced mixed fortunes. At Selhurst Park, Christantus Uche watched from the bench as Crystal Palace clinched a 2-1 win away to West Ham, courtesy of goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta and Tyrick Mitchell. His search for a first Palace appearance continues.
In the Premier League, Nottingham Forest played out a 1-1 draw at Burnley without Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina. Awoniyi’s struggle for playing time persisted, while Aina is sidelined until December after undergoing surgery during the international break.
Meanwhile, in the Bundesliga, Kevin Akpoguma was introduced late on for Hoffenheim in the 83rd minute, but Bayern Munich were already out of reach, thanks to Harry Kane’s hat-trick — including two penalties — in a 4-1 triumph under Vincent Kompany.
Looking ahead, Boniface and Agu face an even tougher test as Bremen prepare to take on reigning champions Bayern Munich next weekend.
