No One Above The Law: Akpabio Reacts To Senate Turmoil

In a statement issued on Saturday by his media aide, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio declared that the National Assembly would not be held hostage by the “disruptive instincts” of any member.
Titled ‘The Trials and Triumphs of a Resilient Nigeria’s 10th Senate’, the statement clarified that the Senate’s commitment to enforcing its rules is not intended to stifle dissent, but to preserve order and protect democratic institutions.
“The Senate cannot and will not be held hostage by the disruptive instincts of any of its members. Democracy thrives only when its institutions are respected and its rules upheld,” he said.
Akpabio further stressed that parliamentary discipline is a cornerstone of every advanced democracy, pointing out that the Nigerian Senate operates under the same principles as legislatures in countries like the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia.
