He Stabbed Me In The Back” – Wike Exposes Why He Cut Ties With Oyo Governor Makinde
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims of having a close personal friendship with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, stating that their connection was strictly political.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Makinde, a member of the G5 governors who aligned with Wike against the 2023 PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, was described by Wike as merely a political associate rather than a friend.
During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Wike clarified:
“What do you mean by friends? No, he was my colleague. We belong to the same political party, not friendship. Seyi Makinde is not my friend. We are political associates, and there’s no law that says associates must remain together.”
Addressing the cause of their fallout, Wike explained that it stemmed from his commitment to party discipline and adherence to the PDP’s rules.
The former Rivers State governor rejected accusations of betrayal, insisting he had always acted in good faith and even advised Makinde to be more cautious in his political dealings.
“It’s about keeping the PDP strong and respecting its rules. When his elder brother died, I visited him with former governors Ortom, Ugwuanyi, and Ikpeazu, alongside Senator Ohuabunwa. I told him, ‘Seyi, the way you’re going, you’ll destroy the party. Calm down.’ I have never betrayed anyone — and I never will.”
Wike further clarified that their disagreement was not political rivalry, but rather a clash over party discipline and leadership conduct.
He cautioned against desperation for political power within the PDP, stressing that leadership should not be based on mere ambition.
“We’re talking about a breath of fresh air, and you’re talking about trivial issues. Leadership isn’t about having a PhD or being an engineer or lawyer. You don’t just wake up and decide to be a presidential candidate. If you truly want to lead, you wouldn’t allow this kind of crisis in the party.”
Wike concluded by questioning the level of commitment shown by others in comparison to his own, saying,
“Who among them has contributed more to the PDP than I have — even till today?”
