Ex-Edo Governor Oshiomhole Slams Atiku Over PDP Weakness, Questions Leadership Ability

Former APC national chairman and Edo North Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, has questioned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s ability to govern Nigeria, arguing that his failure to stabilise the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) demonstrates he lacks the competence to manage a complex nation.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Oshiomhole challenged Atiku’s leadership credentials, asserting that the former PDP presidential candidate could not organise or strengthen the party during his tenure as vice president.

He stated, “If Atiku, as a former vice president under PDP, could not fix or reconstruct the party, and failed to provide the leadership and influence expected of him, how can he claim he can fix Nigeria?”

The comments followed Atiku’s formal defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), ending months of speculation about his political future. Atiku announced the move on , sharing a photo of himself holding his ADC membership card with the caption, “It’s official.”

Oshiomhole also recalled Atiku’s earlier departure from the APC, accusing him of leaving the ruling party solely because he lost the presidential ticket. “He was once a member of the APC. He left because he failed to secure the party’s presidential ticket,” he said.

The Edo North senator dismissed Atiku’s new political alignment as a strategic move to position himself for the 2027 elections, insisting that his track record disqualifies him from making any credible leadership claims.

He added, “He returned to the PDP out of electoral interest. But he could not build the PDP that made him Vice President. If Atiku cannot build that party, he cannot fix Nigeria.”

Atiku resigned from the PDP in July amid ongoing internal disputes and accusations that the party had strayed from its founding principles.
