Fatal Truck Accident Claims Lives Of Mother And Child Near Freeman Market In Lagos
A tragic accident at Mile 2, near Freeman Market, inward Apapa, Lagos State, has claimed the lives of a mother and her child after two container trucks overturned.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed the incident, stating that the agency’s rescue and recovery teams were immediately deployed to the scene to evacuate the victims and clear the wreckage.
Bakare-Oki explained that LASTMA temporarily cordoned off the affected section of the road and redirected motorists through an adjoining service lane to prevent further accidents and reduce traffic congestion.
He said the agency deployed a crane and a high-capacity tow vehicle to remove the overturned trucks and their cargoes from the road. Police officers were also present to provide security and support the recovery operation.
The LASTMA chief further disclosed that the remains of the deceased mother and child were subsequently taken to the police mortuary in Yaba for the necessary procedures.
The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety and the dangers associated with heavy-duty vehicles on Lagos roads. Authorities worked to clear the scene and manage traffic flow following the fatal crash.
