The state government had demanded Ganduje’s arrest after alleging that bandits infiltrated several Kano communities and abducted residents—an incident that reportedly occurred less than 48 hours after the former governor’s controversial comments about establishing a local militia group.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje accused Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of deflecting attention from the growing insecurity in the state.

“It is regrettable that instead of confronting the deteriorating security situation, Governor Yusuf has resorted to chasing shadows and looking for scapegoats to cover up his glaring incompetence,” the statement read.

Ganduje pointed out that communities in Bagwai, Shanono, Tsanyawa, and other affected areas have suffered repeated attacks, yet the governor has failed to visit or empathise with the victims.

“His persistent absence during critical moments speaks volumes about his disconnect from the very people he claims to represent,” he added.

The former governor insisted he has no history of violence or actions capable of jeopardising the peace and stability of Kano State, asserting that the allegations against him were fabricated to divert public attention.

He urged Governor Yusuf to concentrate on his constitutional responsibility of safeguarding the lives and property of Kano residents, rather than indulging in political drama and peddling unfounded accusations.
