Power Comes With Pain!” Olubadan Reveals Why Kingship Is Tougher Than Politics
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has asserted that ruling as a monarch comes with greater challenges than serving as a governor.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement issued by his media aide, Adeola Oloko, the traditional ruler explained that while governors possess coercive authority and access to structured funding, monarchs operate without such privileges despite being burdened with huge responsibilities and public expectations.
Ladoja, who once governed Oyo State between 2003 and 2007 before his impeachment, made the remarks while hosting the Oniru of Iruland, Lagos State, Oba Omogbolahan Lawal, at his Bodija residence in Ibadan.
He said:
“Governments can enforce their authority, but monarchs lack such coercive powers.
There is also no defined system for funding traditional rulers.
It is important to give constitutional recognition to our roles because we are closer to the grassroots.
“The expectations from the Olubadan stool are enormous due to its wide jurisdiction. This is why we continuously think creatively to avoid disappointing our people.”
Among those in attendance were the Ekarun Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Sharafadeen Alli, former Senate Leader and Agbaakin Olubadan, Teslim Folarin, alongside several chiefs and aides who accompanied the visiting monarch.
