The decision, announced by the Federal Ministry of Education, is aimed at curbing the rising incidence of examination malpractice and strengthening the integrity of Nigeria’s education system.

In a statement issued by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, the policy was confirmed to apply to all secondary schools nationwide.

According to the statement, only admissions and transfers into Senior Secondary School One (SS1) and Senior Secondary School Two (SS2) will be allowed going forward, while entry into SS3 has been completely prohibited.

“Under no circumstances will admission or transfer into SS3 be permitted,” the ministry stated.

The ministry explained that the ban was introduced in response to concerns about widespread examination malpractice, including the use of so-called special centres that give certain candidates undue advantage during public examinations.

Officials noted that the policy is designed to prevent last-minute school changes intended to boost examination outcomes, improve academic oversight, and ensure continuity in teaching and learning.

All school owners, principals, and administrators have been instructed to strictly adhere to the directive, with the warning that violators will face sanctions in line with existing education laws and guidelines.

The ministry reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to upholding academic standards, ensuring fairness, and restoring confidence in public examinations nationwide.
