The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the state government of allegedly using public resources to mobilize individuals and groups against the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by the APC State Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris Gusau, the party claimed that denials by bandit leaders of any association with Matawalle suggest a political scheme targeting the former governor.

The party alleged that despite these denials, the Zamfara State Government, under Governor Dauda Lawal, has continued efforts to link Matawalle to banditry and insecurity in Northern Nigeria, allegedly to pressure President Bola Ahmed Tinubu into removing him from office.

Citing video footage, the APC highlighted statements from bandit leader Bello Turji, who reportedly denied ever working for or being sponsored by Matawalle, whether during his tenure as governor or as a minister.

The party also alleged that individuals stationed across Northern Nigeria and parts of the South were spreading these narratives, with at least one admitting to receiving money from the state government for the task.

The APC raised further concerns over the release of Musa Kamarawa, a suspected bandit arrested during Matawalle’s governorship for alleged gun-running and other banditry-related offenses. The party urged security agencies, the National Judicial Council (NJC), the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and civil society organizations to investigate how Kamarawa was released while his case was reportedly still pending.

Rejecting claims that Matawalle had links to criminal elements, the APC emphasized that appointments to sensitive national positions require thorough security clearance by relevant authorities.
