The ruling, delivered on Monday, December 15, 2025, concludes a protracted legal battle that spanned nearly three years.
During the proceedings, Bimbo’s family had accused IVD of responsibility for her death, prompting his arrest and prosecution by the Lagos State Government.
Following the court’s decision, IVD’s partner, Blessing CEO, shared the news on social media, expressing immense relief and joy. She also took the opportunity to counsel others on avoiding toxic relationships.
“Discharged and acquitted, 15th December 2025. It ended in praise. Four years of tears and false narratives. Nigeria’s justice system still works. I’m proud of my country. IVD, you can now have your life back. Congratulations. If a marriage or relationship isn’t working, please run, don’t wait for anyone to pass. Run,” she wrote.
Bimbo Ogbonna passed away in October 2022 after sustaining injuries from a fire incident at their Lagos home. The case gained public attention amid reports suggesting domestic issues within the marriage.
In March 2023, IVD was arraigned and charged with involuntary manslaughter, though he was subsequently granted bail as the case progressed.
The legal saga saw multiple developments, including his rearrest on August 1, 2025, by the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions, which occurred while he was en route to Qatar for his planned wedding with Blessing CEO.
