In a podcast interview, Eben expressed his surprise, noting that all arrangements for the event had already been finalized. He explained that the jeans did not expose his skin or appear inappropriate, yet the church committee deemed them unsuitable for a Christian minister.

“They had already invited me for their convention, and everything was set. Then they saw my album cover where I wore shredded denim jeans,” he recalled.

“The organiser called me, clearly upset, saying the committee felt they couldn’t accept me as a minister because of the jeans. They said it wasn’t appropriate for a Christian,” Eben added.

Reflecting on his more than 20 years in ministry, Eben noted how people often focus on appearances rather than faith or the message being shared. He emphasized that he has always chosen authenticity over projecting a double image, attributing his success to God’s grace rather than personal efforts.

Despite the setback, Eben holds no resentment and views the incident as part of his personal and spiritual growth. He encouraged churches to prioritize genuine worship and spiritual guidance over judging attire, stressing that true ministry is about leading people to God, not critiquing clothing choices.
