The Chairman of Dangote Industries, Aliko Dangote, has formally submitted a corruption petition against the former Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed, to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) through his legal counsel.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The petition, which was made public on Friday by the Dangote Group’s media team, follows an earlier complaint filed with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The initial petition alleged that Ahmed spent $5 million on his children’s secondary education in Switzerland.
Although Dangote recently withdrew the petition from the ICPC, the anti-graft agency has confirmed that its investigation into the matter remains ongoing. According to the statement, the withdrawal was a strategic decision aimed at accelerating the legal process.
In the petition now before the EFCC, Dangote accuses Ahmed of financial misconduct, abuse of office, and corrupt enrichment, urging the commission to conduct a comprehensive investigation and prosecute the former NMDPRA chief if wrongdoing is established.
The legal document, signed by Dangote’s lead counsel, Dr. O.J. Onoja, states that Dangote is prepared to present substantial evidence to support the allegations of financial mismanagement and abuse of power.
Dangote’s legal team underscored the critical role of the EFCC and related agencies in tackling financial crimes, citing past judicial precedents to reinforce their call for prompt action.
Onoja further appealed to the EFCC, under its Chairman, Olanipekun Olukoyede, to thoroughly probe the allegations against Ahmed and take appropriate legal steps should the investigation substantiate the claims.
