Storm Brews In Abia: Ex-Governors Drag Otti To Court Over ‘Private Residence’ Governance

The decision was reached during the group’s second meeting, held at the residence of former Governor Theodore Orji. In a communiqué issued after the meeting on Friday, the group resolved that a lawsuit should be filed to compel Governor Otti to relocate his official activities to the Government House in Umuahia.
The communiqué, read by Victor Ike Oye, a former media aide to the Abia State government, expressed concern that the governor is still conducting state affairs from his personal home. The group includes prominent political figures such as former governors Orji Uzor Kalu, Theodore Orji, and Okezie Ikpeazu.
The statement further noted the group’s commitment to supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and expressed appreciation to the President for appointing one of its members, Okezie Ikpeazu, as an ambassador.
Meanwhile, the Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will unseat Governor Otti in the 2027 governorship election. Addressing supporters at a political gathering, Kalu described Otti as a one-term governor and questioned his political experience.
He insisted that the APC is fully prepared to reclaim Abia State, vowing to campaign across the state to ensure Otti’s defeat. According to Kalu, “The governor once said those who want to replace him should write their wills. He should write his own first because we are taking over.”
Kalu added that Abia voters would unite to vote out the current administration, stressing that election manipulation would not be tolerated in the state.
