The exercise, which will cover ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses, will conclude with a national convention at the end of March. This follows the completion of the party’s nationwide digital membership e-registration, which ends tomorrow, January 30, 2026.

The e-registration, launched in December 2025 and overseen by the National Working Committee, incorporates National Identity Number (NIN) verification and digital data capture to enhance membership records, demographic analysis, and grassroots mobilization.

The start of the congresses was confirmed on Wednesday night in Abuja during a meeting of the Progressive Governors Forum, following a briefing by APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, and members of the National Working Committee. Both the governors and party leaders agreed to strictly follow the timetable ratified by the National Executive Committee (NEC) in December.

The meeting emphasized that the process must be transparent, inclusive, and anchored on internal democracy to maintain party cohesion.

Present at the meeting were Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Mohammed Idris (Kebbi), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Ahmad Aliyu (Sokoto), Usman Ododo (Kogi), Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Umar Bago (Niger), among others.

Commitment to Democratic Practices
In a communiqué, the Progressive Governors Forum reaffirmed its commitment to deepening internal democracy, strengthening party structures, and advancing reforms that ensure transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness within the APC.

The governors welcomed the briefing on the ongoing e-registration, noting increased youth participation and the integration of NIN verification, which supports data-driven planning and strengthens grassroots engagement.

Timetable and Financial Oversight Endorsed
The forum reviewed and approved the full timetable and framework for the congresses and national convention, stressing transparent and coordinated financial management to ensure fairness and accountability across all states, including those not governed by the APC.

The communiqué also underscored the importance of party unity, responsible leadership communication, and collective discipline to maintain public confidence in the APC’s democratic processes. Strategic engagements and state visits to reinforce grassroots structures will begin in Taraba State and extend to other states nationwide.
