In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, said the decision was purely preventive and based on credible intelligence, taken in the best interest of the people.

The clarification comes after the state government, led by Governor Usman Ododo, on Tuesday ordered the shutdown of both public and private schools statewide.

Amid the confusion, criticism, and backlash that followed, Fanwo explained that the action was not driven by panic but by a sense of responsibility. He stressed that the government preferred to act early rather than wait for avoidable incidents to occur.

He noted that Governor Ododo has instructed all relevant agencies to put measures in place to ensure schools reopen as soon as it is safe, so the academic calendar will not be significantly disrupted.

Fanwo also praised security agencies for providing timely and actionable intelligence, describing the collaboration as evidence of the effectiveness of the state’s security framework.

He assured residents that the government remains in control of the situation, adding that security operatives are working tirelessly to identify criminal hideouts and deal decisively with threats.

“The safety of our children, teachers, and educational institutions is non-negotiable. This administration will always prioritise lives while ensuring continuity in governance and education,” Fanwo said.
