Speaking on Frontline, Eagle 102.5 FM, Ilese Ijebu, during a live discussion themed “Political Hurdles Facing Nigerian Women, 2027 and Beyond,” Iyabo said she is undaunted by other aspirants planning to contest the race.

She criticized the move by Ogun West Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, who previously engaged in politics in another state before seeking the Ogun governorship, describing it as an inappropriate approach.

Highlighting concerns about regional representation, the former senator for Ogun Central emphasized that while Nigeria has no formal laws on rotation or zoning, Ogun West has yet to produce a governor—a situation she plans to address after her tenure.

Iyabo Obasanjo stated:

“I’m not convinced that someone coming from another state just to pursue the governorship is the best option. What about the people from Yewa who have long been active in politics? A governor who hasn’t served the area isn’t ideal. The current governor has been with us from the start, and everyone knows him.

“If candidates only chase positions opportunistically, it disrupts the political system. I’m mindful of the fact that Ogun West has never had a governor. That’s not Ogun Central’s fault—there have been three governors from Ogun East and two from Central. We need to ensure that after my tenure, the next governor comes from the West, and I am committed to making that happen.

“I believe the people will recognize our capacity. There is a difference between someone with presence and proven ability and someone who is only pursuing the position for themselves. I have supported leaders from the West, unlike my rivals, and I am running because I’ve served the people, not just for personal ambition.”
