Breaking: Abia Lawmaker Mascot Ikwechegh Dumps APGA, Joins Labour Party
Mascot Ikwechegh, the lawmaker representing Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has officially joined the Labour Party, following his recent exit from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Ikwechegh had earlier resigned from APGA alongside several party executives in Aba. On Tuesday, he confirmed his membership in the Labour Party, putting an end to days of speculation over his political future.
Shortly after announcing his new political affiliation, the federal lawmaker held a private meeting with Abia State Governor, Alex Otti. The discussion was conducted behind closed doors, and no details were disclosed.
The move has prompted reactions from APGA’s state chapter. The party’s chairman in Abia, Sunday Onukwubiri, revealed that the Umuahia office was not formally informed about Ikwechegh’s resignation. He assured that the party would remain united and peaceful despite any member departures.
This latest development adds to Ikwechegh’s controversial public profile. In late 2024, a video circulated showing him allegedly assaulting a driver for a ride-hailing service in Abuja. The footage showed Ikwechegh hitting the driver and reportedly threatening to make him “disappear.” He was subsequently charged with assault, abuse of office, and threat to life, and was granted bail by a magistrate court.
