The dispute intensified after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) stated it would no longer recognize factions led by David Mark and Nafiu Bala, referencing a Court of Appeal judgment and ongoing legal proceedings.
In a Facebook post, Abbo explained that tensions within the party began after Bala and members of the national working committee stepped aside to allow a new leadership structure to emerge.
He recalled that during a meeting at the Yar’Adua Centre, Bala was present while David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola assumed leadership roles as national chairman and secretary, respectively.
Abbo stated that there was an understanding to distribute party positions across different geopolitical zones to accommodate members of the existing structure. He claimed that Bala was initially promised the role of national vice chairman for the North-East.
However, according to him, the agreement was not fulfilled. He alleged that Bala was instead replaced by Babachir Lawal for the position.
Abbo further claimed that Bala declined another position offered to him and, as a result, became dissatisfied with the outcome.
He also alleged that Bala later began efforts to destabilize the party, though these claims remain unverified.
The senator added that some political actors, including a sitting governor and a former minister, were allegedly supporting legal challenges against the ADC.
Abbo urged Bala to withdraw the court case and work toward reconciliation, while also calling on INEC to reconsider its stance. He warned that failure to resolve the dispute could have wider political implications.
