In a statement issued through its media office in Abuja, the association clarified that it did not extend any invitation to the Sultan for the event, stressing that the circulating information did not originate from CAN.
The organisation explained that the document responsible for the confusion came from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), adding that it neither issued nor approved any communication linking the Sultan to the chapel project.
CAN said it moved quickly to correct the narrative because its name had been wrongly associated with the claim, describing the report as inaccurate and misleading.
It also expressed concern that such reports could fuel unnecessary tension, particularly along religious lines, warning that unverified information can create division among citizens.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, mutual respect, and religious harmony across the country, while also safeguarding Christian interests.
CAN further urged journalists, public figures, and the general public to verify information before sharing it, encouraging reliance on accurate and confirmed reports to avoid misinformation.
