He made this known during an interview on ARISE Television’s The Morning Show, where he also responded to President Tinubu’s recent comments dismissing critics who claim they do not see progress under his government.

Tinubu had earlier said that Nigerians who fail to recognize the impact of his policies may need “prescription glasses,” adding humorously that such individuals could be given “jigi-bola” to help them see clearly.

Reacting to this, Baba-Ahmed expressed concern that the President’s remarks reflect a disconnect from the economic and security realities facing citizens.

He argued that it is difficult to commend the administration’s performance given the widespread poverty, insecurity, and concerns about accountability.

According to him, “There is no way you can live in this country, see the level of poverty and unaccountability, and still expect Nigerians to applaud your performance.

“We are more insecure, more hungry, and more desperate.

“The reforms on paper do not reflect the reality Nigerians face.

“We are not properly accounting for the funds we are receiving, yet we are being told to applaud performance.”

Baba-Ahmed further said he believes the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) could be defeated in a free and fair election, arguing that there is a growing disconnect between government perceptions and public sentiment.

He added, “If the president goes into an election with this mindset and allows a free and fair process, then we are home and dry.

“One of the reasons we are confident we can defeat the APC is because of this kind of mindset.

“You cannot have so many failures in an administration and still claim everything is fantastic.”
