Soludo Taps Matthew Kukah For Fresh Role, Sparks Reactions
The Governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo, has appointed Matthew Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, as Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The appointment was announced on Wednesday in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime.
According to the statement, Kukah’s appointment is expected to strengthen the university through his international connections, help foster global partnerships, promote ethical leadership, and reinforce the institution’s commitment to producing well-rounded graduates.
Aburime described Kukah as a respected Nigerian intellectual and cleric whose work has combined academic scholarship with advocacy for social justice.
The statement highlighted Kukah’s academic background, noting that he studied Philosophy and Theology at St. Augustine Major Seminary, earned a diploma in religious studies from the University of Ibadan, obtained a Bachelor of Divinity from the Pontifical Urban University, a master’s degree in peace studies from the University of Bradford, and a PhD from the SOAS University of London.
It also noted that he has undertaken studies at University of Oxford and Harvard University.
Beyond academia, Kukah was described as a prolific author and founder of The Kukah Centre, where he has championed research-based advocacy focused on interfaith harmony and policy reform.
The state government said his appointment is expected to enhance the university’s profile, deepen international collaboration, and provide strategic leadership that aligns with its broader educational vision.
