The development was announced by the Head of the State Civil Service, Muazu Shehu, who said the new wage will cover staff in all 11 local government councils, employees under the Local Education Authorities, and workers in primary healthcare services. Implementation is expected to commence in May 2026.
According to Shehu, the state has now settled the outstanding 43 percent balance, bringing the implementation of the wage structure to 100 percent completion. He attributed the move to improved financial stability at the local government level, which has strengthened their capacity to meet salary obligations consistently.
He added that the wage increase is expected to boost workers’ morale, improve productivity, and strengthen service delivery at the grassroots.
The approval comes amid sustained calls from civil society groups for full implementation of the minimum wage, especially in response to the rising cost of living.
