Osifo, a trader from Edo State, picked up the forms on Tuesday after earlier declaring his intention to seek the APC presidential ticket. His move sets up a potential challenge to Tinubu at the party’s primaries.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Osifo said his decision to enter the race is in line with both party rules and electoral laws, stressing that endorsements do not automatically determine who emerges as the party’s flagbearer.

His declaration comes despite growing support for Tinubu within the APC, including endorsements from all 22 APC governors backing the President as the party’s preferred candidate for 2027.

Reacting to speculation that his ambition may have the backing of Tinubu, Osifo dismissed the claims, insisting he has no financial or political sponsorship from the President. He challenged anyone with evidence to the contrary to make it public.

He also maintained that the APC constitution does not make endorsements binding and argued that every qualified party member has the right to contest for any office, including the presidency.

According to him, both the party’s internal rules and guidelines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission support the right of aspirants to seek nomination through due process.
