The decision was reached on Thursday during a meeting held at the party secretariat in Lokoja, the state capital, where members unanimously endorsed an earlier approval by the State Chairman, Muhammed Gambo.
With the endorsement, Akpoti-Uduaghan was also recognised as a key leader within the PDP in Kogi State, with party officials citing her consistent loyalty, support for party activities, and financial contributions to its structure.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, Gambo praised the senator’s performance in the National Assembly, noting that she has helped boost the party’s visibility through her legislative work.
He stated that her contributions go beyond lawmaking, highlighting her developmental efforts in Kogi Central. According to him, she has initiated empowerment programmes and supported infrastructure development projects in the district.
These include the construction of schools and markets, provision of housing, and skills acquisition initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods in her constituency.
The PDP described her record of service and commitment as the reason she was chosen as the preferred candidate for the upcoming election, assuring her of full party support ahead of 2027.
The party also said the decision reflects strong confidence in her leadership, performance, and popularity among members in Kogi Central.
The endorsement comes shortly after Akpoti-Uduaghan declared her intention to seek re-election, following consultations with constituents across the five local government areas in the senatorial district.
