She announced her defection in a statement shared on her (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, explaining that the move was driven by her commitment to presidential hopeful Peter Obi.
Yesufu also revealed her intention to contest the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
In her statement, she noted that the coming days would shape the country’s future, adding that her decision to leave the ADC and align with the NDC was in continuation of her support for Obi, whom she described as representing the hope for a better Nigeria.
She explained that her earlier backing of Obi influenced her decision to join the ADC, and that her switch to the NDC was a way of staying true to that pledge.
Yesufu emphasised that she is not just joining the new party as a member but will also be running for the FCT Senate seat under its platform.
Reflecting on her time in the ADC, she said she had completed her responsibilities and ensured a smooth transition, while expressing appreciation to party members.
She described her experience within the party as valuable, noting that she had served in multiple roles, including sub-committee chair, deputy committee chair, and secretary, and thanked her colleagues for their cooperation and support.
