A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has dismissed former presidential candidate Peter Obi as neither serious nor politically relevant following his defection to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking during an interview on ARISE Television, Okonkwo said Obi’s exit would have no impact on the ADC or its chances in the 2027 presidential election.

He criticised Obi for frequently switching parties, alleging that the former Anambra State governor had moved across three political platforms within six months. According to him, if not for restrictions in the Electoral Act, Obi might have defected again.

Okonkwo maintained that such movements do not inspire confidence, arguing that leadership requires consistency and the ability to confront challenges rather than avoid them.

He insisted that the ADC remains strong and focused, expressing confidence that the party and its coalition would secure victory in 2027.

“We are alive and strong, and we are determined to form the next government because we will win the 2027 election. The coalition is intact and progressing smoothly,” he said.

While acknowledging that changing parties does not automatically define a politician’s competence or character, Okonkwo stressed that the reasons behind such decisions matter.

He questioned Obi’s justification for leaving the ADC, noting that the former governor had admitted having no issues with key figures in the party but cited internal challenges as his reason for departure.

Okonkwo argued that a leader seeking to govern Nigeria must be prepared to handle difficult situations, rather than move away from them.
