According to the company, the attackers stormed the facility, forced their way into the control room, and held workers on duty at gunpoint.

The incident was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah.

The company said the armed men compelled operators to open the Offa and Ojoku 33kV feeders before ordering a full shutdown of the substation.

Mbah explained that the attackers gained access around 12:45 a.m. and immediately took control of operations at the facility.

“They further demanded a total shutdown of the substation,” she stated.

She added that during the invasion, the assailants tampered with key control systems, including switches and relay buttons, and also affected the 40MVA transformer.

“The 40MVA transformer was opened at approximately 1:07 a.m. during the incident,” she said.

Despite the disruption, TCN noted that power supply was gradually restored shortly after the attack.

According to the company, the 40MVA transformer was restored at 1:13 a.m., while the Offa 33kV feeder came back at 1:14 a.m., and the Ojoku 33kV feeder was restored by 2:15 a.m.

The company subsequently declared force majeure on the Offa 132kV substation following the incident.

TCN expressed regret over the disruption and reaffirmed its commitment to delivering stable electricity transmission across the country.

It added that it remains focused on efficiently transmitting bulk electricity to distribution companies nationwide despite security challenges.
