Upon his arrival at the Akure Airport, the Vice President was welcomed by Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Dapo Abiodun, alongside other top political figures and dignitaries.
In a statement issued by the spokesperson to the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima’s visit was described as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s goodwill towards Fasoranti, whom he praised as one of Nigeria’s most respected socio-political leaders.
The statement further described Fasoranti as a devoted follower of the late Obafemi Awolowo and one of the few surviving loyalists of the Awolowo political ideology. It noted that he belonged to the defunct Action Group during the First Republic and later the Unity Party of Nigeria in the Second Republic, where he also served as Commissioner for Finance in the old Ondo State.
Meanwhile, Vice President Shettima also commended the graduation of 12 former Chibok schoolgirls from American University of Nigeria.
Speaking through the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Abdullahi Ribadu, during the university’s 17th graduation ceremony held on Saturday, Shettima described the achievement as a strong symbol of resilience and renewed hope for girls’ education in Nigeria.
He praised the institution for providing a supportive academic environment that enabled the former abducted students to successfully complete their university education.
According to the Vice President, the graduation of the 12 women represents not only a personal milestone for them but also a national reminder of the importance of promoting women’s education as a key driver of development.
