Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has said she is not abandoning advocacy, but rather extending it into the political space.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Yesufu recently moved from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), aligning with former presidential candidate Peter Obi, where she also announced her intention to contest a Senate seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, she explained that her decision to enter partisan politics does not mean she is stepping away from activism.

According to her, the move is a continuation of her advocacy work within a political structure.

She said, “I must say that we are all politicians. I decided to be partisan by joining a political party.”

She further stressed that her activism remains intact despite her new political direction.

“For me, I’m not leaving advocacy. I’m taking advocacy into politics. Some may see it as just words, but I have kept my word for over a decade in the public space,” she said.

Yesufu added that she has remained consistent in her advocacy across multiple administrations and believes it is unfair to separate activism from governance.

She also argued that activists who transition into government or politics should not be dismissed, noting that some have contributed positively when given the opportunity.
