At the Egret Stadium, Amusan clocked 12.28 seconds, improving her previous season’s best of 12.41 seconds by 0.13s.

She was only beaten by American record holder Masai Russell, who won the race in 12.14 seconds, one of the fastest times ever recorded in the event.

Russell’s time came within a narrow margin of Amusan’s world record of 12.12 seconds set at the 2022 World Championships in Oregon.

Devynne Charlton finished third in 12.37 seconds, with Megan Simmonds, Ditaji Kambundji, and Ackera Nugent also competing in a strong field. Danielle Williams placed seventh.

Amusan entered the meet after winning the African title and finishing third at the Shanghai Diamond League, with her latest performance suggesting steady progress ahead of major championships later in the season.

Russell, already the second-fastest athlete in history after running 12.17 seconds in Miramar last year, further improved her credentials with a dominant Diamond League record performance.

In another event, Nigeria’s Chukwuebuka Enekwechi opened his 2026 Diamond League campaign with a fifth-place finish in the men’s shot put.

The African record holder recorded a best throw of 21.14 metres in a highly competitive field featuring several top international athletes.

The event was won by Rajindra Campbell with a throw of 22.34 metres, ahead of Jordan Geist and world record holder Ryan Crouser, while Tom Walsh finished sixth.

Enekwechi, who holds a personal season best of 21.74 metres and the African record of 22.10 metres, is targeting stronger performances as he continues his push for qualification for the Diamond League final.
