The Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu State, Johnpaul Anih, has dismissed allegations of impersonation levelled against him by some party leaders.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) had earlier disowned Anih, insisting that he is not the recognised Enugu State chairman and is not authorised to act on behalf of the party in any capacity. He was also accused of impersonating the officially recognised state chairman, Engr. Ibuchukwu Obeta.

Reacting in a statement on Monday, Anih described the allegations as “laughable,” insisting that they were politically motivated.

He accused those behind the claims of being “political opportunists bent on hijacking the party through intimidation, propaganda, and backdoor arrangements.”

Anih further alleged that some individuals who previously worked with him had now turned against him, claiming they were influenced by financial inducements, even though he said he played a key role in building the party’s structure in the state.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the only valid congresses for the Enugu State chapter of the NDC were duly conducted, culminating in the State Congress, which took place at Aborigen Hall and Premises, Enugu, in the presence of the media, security agencies, and electoral officials,” he said.

He maintained that the congress produced him as the legitimate state chairman, adding that the process was disrupted by alleged thugs but still proceeded to completion.

“We possess video evidence of the authentic congress that produced me and my executive members, as conducted by the Congress Committee assigned by the national leadership of the party,” he added.

Anih also accused the party’s National Publicity Secretary of contradicting established facts regarding the leadership structure in Enugu State.

He further alleged that some party officials had written to INEC on May 6, 2026, seeking approval to conduct ward, local government, and state congresses scheduled for May 16–18, 2026, claiming the move was later concealed from stakeholders.

According to him, although INEC acknowledged receipt of the letter on May 8, the process was allegedly stalled by a court order on May 15.

“For emphasis, there was no known congress conducted anywhere in the state, as the attempted illegitimate exercise never took place after party members rejected such arrangements and it was halted by a court order,” he stated.
