Breaking: FCTA Threatens Sanctions On Hotels Hosting Unregistered Political Parties

The administration, led by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, warned that title documents of any property found to be used for such unlawful gatherings could be revoked.

This was disclosed in a statement released on Friday by the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.

According to the statement, the directive is part of broader efforts to strengthen security in the capital and support the work of security agencies in maintaining public order.

The FCTA said monitoring of event centres, hotels, and other public buildings would be intensified to ensure they are not used for activities that could threaten peace in the Federal Capital Territory.

The statement explained that the move is aimed at preventing unlawful organisations from using public venues to disrupt security and order in Abuja.

Facility owners were also advised to verify the legal status of groups before granting access to their premises and to understand the purpose of any event being hosted.

The administration stressed that all land and property within the FCT must be used strictly for lawful purposes.

It specifically warned that hotel and event centre operators must only engage with political party leaderships recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), particularly during politically sensitive periods.

The statement further noted that proper documentation of all transactions must be maintained.

It added that failure to comply with the directive could result in the revocation of property title documents.

The FCTA reiterated that the policy is designed to safeguard lives and property, prevent infiltration by unlawful groups, and reduce the risk of political or security-related tensions within the capital city.
